Homemade Salisbury Steak Recipe (2024)

You can't ask for better than our homemade Salisbury steak with roasted potatoes recipe - it's a comfort food classic!

I love the comforting dish of homemade Salisbury steak and mashed potatoes. I crave it every time the weather gets a bit chilly and snow flurries are predicted.

There is no shortage of Salisbury steak recipes out there, but I promise none of them are as good as your Mom’s. And furthermore, my version is a bit different.

This is arguably the easiest Salisbury steak recipe you'll ever find! It's perfectly portioned, loaded with comfort flavor and a cinch to pull together quickly.

Why I Love This Easy Homemade Salisbury Steak Recipe

With this recipe I specifically wanted an easy version of Salisbury steak that I could mix up in less than 15 minutes using as few dishes as possible.

In my dream world, dinner uses only one skillet or sheet pan and one bowl. I have zero interest in dirtying up an entire kitchen's worth of dishes and pans.

Plus, when I fry Salisbury steaks, the grease splatters and personally I would rather wash extra dishes than clean a stovetop. You too? I thought maybe!

This recipe checks all the boxes! It boasts all that rich, hearty comfort food flavor you're craving, but the prep and the cleanup is super simplified.

I sacrificed the typical creamy mashed potatoes that usually accompany Salisbury steak for roasted baby red potatoes, but do not be fooled!

These potatoes are just as decadent as mashed potatoes. The juices that drip from the meat while it cooks baste the potatoes. Heavenly spuds, if you ask me.

This meal came together in 10 minutes for me the first time I was making it and every time since then making it the definition of quick, easy and delicious.

Easy Homemade Salisbury Steak Recipe

To make this easy homemade Salisbury steak recipe, you will need:

Ingredients

  • Ground beef - Like all Salisbury steak recipes, ground beef is the star of the show here. I typically use an 80/20 ground beef.
  • Potatoes - I prefer using red potatoes here because the flavor and texture are perfection. You could also use yellow potatoes if needed.
  • Onion - Again, red onions are the preference for this recipe but yellow or sweet onions will also work well and taste fantastic.
  • Seasonings - Simple seasonings like salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, mustard powder and Worcestershire sauce add the perfect flavor to this simple and easy Salisbury steak recipe.

Gear

  • Mixing bowl
  • Sheet pan
  • Knife + cutting board

Step 1. First, thinly slice the onions after cutting them from root to tip to end up with half-moon shapes. Place the onions on the bottom of the sheet pan.

Next, slice baby red potatoes that are no bigger than a golf ball. Add those on top of the onions. Drizzle the veggies with oil, salt and pepper and toss.

Step 2. Use a bowl to mix up the meat mixture.I use my hands for even, fast mixing. It couldn't be easier to do this with your hands so don't overthink it.

Step 3. Continue to mix the meat mixture with your hands just until combined. Remember the longer you mix meat, the tougher it becomes, so mix quickly!

Step 4. Set the Salisbury steaks on top of the veggies and pop the sheet pan into the oven to roast for 30 minutes. That's it! It simply could not be any easier.

Step 5. Remove the sheet pan from the oven and allow your Salisbury steaks to rest slight before serving then layer the steaks over potatoes and onions.

There you have it! Dinner, done, in just minutes. This recipe easily doubles if you're trying to feed more than two though it is written to be portioned for two.
